Computerized Sewing Machine Foundations – Machine Mastery – 3 class series

Whether you just purchased a brand spanking new computerized sewing machine or you’ve had it for years, this series of 3 classes will ensure that you have the knowledge you need to unlock all the wonderful creative potential these amazing machines offer. This series is usually taught as a brand-specific class. It can be modified to work with: Husqvarna Viking, Baby Lock, Pfaff, Bernina, Janome, Elna and Singer. Here’s what this full series of classes includes:

Class #1: The Basics — Covers all the basics such as threading, bobbin winding, included accessory explanations, troubleshooting and when/where/why to use those different utility stitches. In addition, this class also includes a discussion of what all those buttons on your machine does, how to select and modify stitches. We’ll end this class by putting into practice what was learned by creating a buttonhole closure pouch which uses a blind hem, overcast edges, a straight seam and 2 buttonholes.
Class #2: Decorative Stitches and Memory — We’ll start to unlock even more of the creative power of your machine by talking about some of the ways to use those many decorative stitches, how to get them to look great every time, basics of fabric stabilization and how thread choice impacts the finished look. We’ll also introduce some of the different feet and other accessories that can help you with your projects of choices. For those machines which feature memory capability, we’ll also practice creating custom stitch patterns and store/retrieve text such as “Made by ME!” For the practicum, we’ll be taking everything learned and applying it into creating a custom decorated, lined zippered pouch. That means you’ll be using thread and your machine’s decorative stitches to create a uniquely you exterior for your pouch, then I’ll teach you how to install a zipper, add the lining, and voila! Gorgeous finished project!
Class #3: The Quilting Related Capability — I make sure everyone knows that everything learned in this class can be applied any way they feel inspired to, but in general these fall into the “quilting” category. We’ll play with applique and talk about how thread and stitch choices affect the impact of the project, best ways to stabilize the pieces of the project and what feet make it easier to work with. We’ll spend some time talking about piecing, playing with the hand-look running stitch and working with a walking foot (no, it’s NOT just for quilting!). We’ll then turn to free motion, everything from proper equipment to posture to techniques to get you on the road to feed-dog freedom! The final segment of this entirely jam packed series will go over care and routine maintenance — what you can do, how to do it, and when to take it to a repair technician.

Join us for all three classes. By the end of this series, I guarantee you’ll not be intimated by that machine but instead will be excited by the powerhouse that sits right there at your fingertips!

Student Comments:

“I learned more in the first class with you than I did after 5 classes [with a different teacher]!”

“I know this is my third time through your series, but I keep learning more and more and it’s always so fun!”

“You mean my machine can do that? Oh my goodness, I had no idea. I think I’m in love all over again!”

“I love that we get to make real, useful projects that I can take home and show my husband. ‘See! I’m learning how to master this machine!'”

What kind of machines work best? This is a brand specific series of classes, meaning everything is tailored for the way that the listed brand does things. The terminology is their’s, the functionality and the way things work is unique to them. Look at the Class Title in the Events section to see which brand this is for.

What to bring? Your machine along with the power cord, foot control, all accessories that came with it (such as bobbins), and some thread to sew with. Please make sure the machine is in good working order. Some locations do have repair technicians, but not all, and rarely is same-hour-service available. All materials used in this class are provided, though for the second class if you want to break out the fancy or special threads I’m totally in favor of that!

Where? See the Calendar for scheduled times, or contact Dravon to schedule either a private lesson or see about having Dravon teach at your location. This can even taught as a private party event!

Cost? Cost depends on venue.

Class limit? Usually the maximum size is 6 people to ensure individual attention.

To Register: contact Dravon to schedule either a private lesson or see about having Dravon teach at your location.

Are you a store owner/manager and want me to teach this series in your store? Contact me to see what we can work out. I’m familiar with most all of the big brands available today and can tailor the classes to your brand and the accessories you carry.
